To mark the 6th Chinese People’s Police Day, the Hangzhou Yuhang Public Security Bureau of Hangzhou hosted a Police Open Day event titled “Guarded by Yuhang Police, Walking Together in Safety”on January 8. The event attracted over 1,000 citizens and offered the public an immersive look into the latest developments in modern policing technology.

During the event, the Hangzhou, Yuhang Public Security Bureau highlighted the extensive use of 3D scanning technology in real-world policing and criminal investigations. This “high-tech crime-solving tool” is supported by SCANOLOGY sub-brand 3DeVOK, which provides the 3DeVOK MT professional-grade 3D scanner along with technical expertise, playing a critical role in forensic investigation and frontline police operations.
Featuring non-contact 3D scanning measurement, high accuracy, and color scanning, the 3DeVOK MT delivers measurement accuracy of up to 0.04 mm and a peak scanning speed of 4.5 million points per second. With support for marker-free rapid scanning, on-site evidence can be digitally captured and preserved within 3–5 minutes, significantly improving efficiency compared to traditional investigation methods. Acting like a “3D magnifying glass” for crime scene documentation, the system enables investigators to accurately capture subtle details that are often difficult to detect, ensuring more comprehensive, objective, and reliable digital evidence collection.

In the field of public security and judicial investigation, the 3DeVOK MT has been widely adopted across multiple frontline policing scenarios, becoming a key tool for criminal forensics, digital evidence collection, and forensic documentation. During this Police Open Day, the Hangzhou Yuhang Public Security Bureau highlighted the practical value of the 3DeVOK MT in the following three representative law enforcement applications, demonstrating how high-accuracy 3D scanning technology is transforming modern policing workflows.
At crime scenes, footprints are among the most fragile and easily compromised forms of physical evidence, yet they often carry critical investigative value. Leveraging the high-accuracy 3D scanning capabilities of the 3DeVOK MT, investigators can rapidly create detailed 3D models of ground footprints without the need for markers, ensuring that the original scene remains undisturbed.
The system precisely captures depth variations, tread patterns, and spatial relationships, preserving footprints in their complete three-dimensional form. Compared with traditional methods such as photography or plaster casting, 3D footprint data is more objective, quantifiable, and reproducible, providing more reliable digital evidence for subsequent comparison, forensic analysis, and judicial identification.

For various types of case-related physical evidence—such as tools, instruments, damaged components, and other key objects—the 3DeVOK MT enables rapid, marker-free 3D scanning without causing any damage to the original evidence. The system accurately captures the geometry, dimensions, and surface characteristics of each object, ensuring precise and comprehensive digital documentation.
The resulting 3D models can be used not only for case analysis and evidence comparison, but also for long-term digital archiving, supporting repeated access, remote expert consultation, and visual presentation in court proceedings. By adopting a 3D digital documentation approach, physical evidence preservation is upgraded from traditional “object-only storage” to a dual-track model combining physical evidence with high-fidelity 3D digital records, significantly improving the efficiency, reliability, and usability of evidence management in modern forensic workflows.

In injury assessment and judicial evidence collection, the form, location, and severity of body surface injuries are critical factors in forensic analysis. The 3DeVOK MT supports non-contact, low-light, color 3D scanning, enabling rapid and detailed digital documentation of body surface injuries without causing discomfort or harm to the eyes.
Combined with a high-resolution imaging system and the 3DeVOK mapping software, the solution accurately preserves wound morphology, color variations, and spatial relationships, effectively avoiding information loss commonly caused by viewing angles or lighting conditions in traditional photography. This three-dimensional documentation approach provides a more intuitive, objective, and reproducible representation of injuries, offering strong technical support for subsequent forensic identification, medical-legal evaluation, and case reconstruction.

By integrating 3D scanning technology into frontline policing, the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau continues to advance criminal investigation toward greater digitalization, visualization, and standardization. As a key technical solution in this transformation, the 3DeVOK MT is supporting the development of modern policing systems with higher efficiency, greater precision, and enhanced reliability. Through technology-driven innovation, advanced 3D forensic documentation is becoming a powerful and practical tool—ensuring that science and technology serve as a solid foundation for safeguarding justice, accuracy, and public trust.
